What is Sesame oil?

Sesame oil is made from the sesame seeds and it's quite popular in Asian cooking. It's is widely used in South Korea to add more nutty and rich flavor in fried rice, Kimbap, marinating sauce, dressing, soups and many other dishes.

Sesame seeds are known to be healthy choice with omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids that help preventing diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Also, vitamin E in sesame oil helps reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases. And, it has potential benefits for the skin as well.



What do you use Sesame oil for?

Sesame oil can be used in many ways to add flavor even with just small amounts but never fry with sesame oil. If you'd like to use it to fry something, use it mixed with other oils with high heating point.

It is always good to use to finish the fried rice or fried noodles with sesame oil in Korean dishes. Just add one or two table spoons of sesame oil right before you turn off the stove. Then mix quickly just to even out the sesame oil with other ingredients.

It's also good with vegetable dishes that are boiled or fried. Add a little amount at the end of mixing the vegetables with other ingredients.

Store in a cool, dark place to stay far from any temperature changes such as stove. It's recommended to seal very tightly because it gets harmful if exposed by sun light or air. And, you'll find that most of the sesame oil is sold in dark brown bottle which are good to prevent the sunlight exposure. Also, it's not recommended to store in refrigerator because the temperature changes every time you use the sesame oil.
